Volunteering
Street cleaners never stopped working despite the high risk of COVID infection during the pandemic. Due to the harsh working environment and physically demanding work nature, many of them suffered from musculoskeletal disorders and other diseases.
To help monitor their health conditions and get feedback from Caritas' Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture service, Kerry Group Jigsaw volunteers partnered with Caritas in making regular caring calls to more than 30 cleaners from October to December, to check on their mental and physical health and give support and appreciation to their works.
This is an initiative of 'Caritas Labour-Friendly Communities Project', supported by Kerry Group, to promote health, safety and dignity of cleaning workers. To encourage colleagues to care for the cleaners in the community, we have organised a series of 'Cheer for Cleaners' volunteering programmes, including outreach to cleaners through setting up Cleaners Health Check Station at various refuse collection points in Hong Kong.
